The 3.0L in-line 6-cylinder engine in the X3 M40i is considered by many as BMW’s best, offering smooth power and impressive performance.
The torque in this engine is immediate, no matter the gear, speed, or drive mode, making it responsive at all times.
The exhaust note is one of the most thrilling aspects of driving the X3 M40i, with loud pops and crackles in Sports and Sports+ modes.
The X3 M40i's gear shifts are incredibly quick and smooth, especially in paddle-shift mode, which provides better control on winding roads.
The car feels significantly more powerful than the X5 50i, even though the latter has a V8 engine with 445 horsepower.
The steering provides a direct and responsive feel, especially in Sports and higher modes, although it becomes slightly vaguer in Eco-Pro mode.
The cabin is spacious, with plush cognac interiors and carbon fiber trim that give it a luxurious feel, especially enhanced by the sunroof.

Dislikes

The 19” wheels and Pirelli RF tires lose performance after 13K miles, especially during hard driving, causing squealing in corners.
The seating position, while great for cornering, may not provide the best comfort for long drives, especially for larger individuals.
Gas mileage fluctuates significantly; Eco-Pro mode offers around 26-27 mpg, but aggressive driving brings it down to 17-18 mpg.
The wireless charger heats up quickly and charges slowly, making it an impractical and overpriced feature.
